The Forest Preserve of DuPage County is a treasure of over 26,000 acres filled with a variety of inviting places for all to enjoy and visit.  She is running to support the Mission statement for all of these areas for our residents and visitors. 

Karen is a lifelong resident of DuPage County and a graduate of Downers Grove South High School.  Karen attended College of DuPage and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Society.  She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management and Business from National Louis University and is also a Notary Public in the State of Illinois. 

Karen was employed in the corporate environment for more than forty years and began her career at McDonald’s Corporation and worked in Human Resources and Purchasing.   She retired from CNH Industrial where she worked in Treasury and Finance. 

Karen is passionate about volunteering and giving time to the community.  She has served as a DuPage County Forest Preserve volunteer for over twelve years as a horse care provider at the Forest Preserve’s Danada Equestrian Center. She is a member of the Friends of Danada Fact Finder’s Committee, currently unearthing historical facts about Dan and Ada Rice, owners of the Danada Farm and racing stables in Wheaton.  Karen was a committee member for a Fashion Show Fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House for 5 years and chaired the event in 2004.  

As an elected Trustee for the Downers Grove Township she audits township expenses, reviews budgets, and recommends efficiencies for the Township to run more efficiently. She is also the liaison to the Township senior citizen committees where she helps promote programs to help seniors.  Her experience in board meetings gives her the skills necessary to join the Forest Preserve board and work with other board commissioners to fulfill the mission statement of the Forest Preserve.  She regularly attends Forest Preserve board meetings to keep informed of board discussions and resolutions.

Karen's memberships include: Conservation Foundation, American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Best Friends Animal Society, Humane Society of the United States, and the World Wildlife Fund.

Karen and her husband Arthur live in Downers Grove with two their two cats, Fiona and Shrek. They have two daughters and one son.  Her hobbies include gardening, fishing and walking the trails in the Forest Preserve.  Karen’s husband is a volunteer at the Danada Farm where they grow corn and soy beans using antique tractors.
